How I Brighten My Blonde Hair When It’s Looking Dull and Brassy

Being a blonde can be very tricky sometimes!

We need to constantly make sure our hair is hydrated, protected, and healthy. But at the same time, we have to make sure it's bright and has a beautiful shine.

Blonde hair can easily turn yellow and brassy, so we need to constantly keep up with toners and glosses. I have some amazing products that do wonders for touch-ups in between my hair appointments.

The following are some tricks of the trade that anyone can follow:

#1 Purple Shampoo

Purple shampoo helps get rid of unwanted brassy tones. My favorite is Kerastase Blond Absolu Bain Ultra Violet. The hyaluronic acid in this shampoo works wonders, but you just want to make sure you don't want to leave it on too long.

The way I use it — I will wash my hair with my regular shampoo, then do a second wash with my purple shampoo. Leave it on for about 2 minutes and then immediately wash it off. I follow with my regular conditioner and then a hair mask. End with a cool rinse.

#2 - Purple Conditioning Masque

I also use Kerastase Blond Absolu Masque Ultraviolet. I either use the blonde shampoo or the masque but never together. I don’t use them both at the same time because I notice my hair gets a little too much of a purple tone if I use both. This masque neutralizes brassy and yellow undertones in the hair.

#3 - Malibu C Blondes Wellness Hair Crystals

I love these crystals because they get rid of discoloration from minerals and oils while restoring your hair's beautiful blonde glow.

I found this product after my ends turned an orange tinge. Come to fid out, when I was in the mountains for a weekend, I had washed my hair with water full of minerals. It reacted the wrong with my toner, causing my hair to turn dull and brassy.

This product also works great with hair that turns green from chlorine exposure in pools and spas.

First, shampoo with your regular shampoo. Next, pour the crystals into your hands and rub them together with water to dissolve the crystals.

Apply it to your hair and leave in for 3-5 (don't exceed five minutes).
Rinse, then use your regular conditioner and hair mask.

#4 - My Favorite Leave in Conditioners

My favorite leave-in conditioner and detanglers that help maintain bright blonde hair are It’s a 10 and Unite 7Seconds Detangler. While some conditioners and detanglers alter hair tone, both of these products are gentle and effective.

#6 - My Favorite Dry Shampoo for Blonde Hair

Without a doubt, Kenra Platinum Dry Shampoo does the trick. It brightens dull locks, soaks up oils, and is ultra-refreshing.

  1. Thanks for sharing! Hope ok to share my tips here 🙂 I love the Blonde Baby range from BondiBoost. The shampoo itself is amazing, I leave it in for a few min and so see a huge difference with that. Also the conditioner and mask are amazing. They just came out with a Conditioning Tangle Therapy spray. Love the products. Also they don't use any sulphates, parabens or silicone 🙂
